The LX08A USB–RS adapter is designed to interface a computer USB port with serial equipment via RS232, RS485, or TTL. It runs from 5V USB power with 2W consumption and supports USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 connections.
This adapter can be used to connect NMEA 0183 devices to a computer or tablet with a USB port. For example, it allows you to feed navigation or AIS data into software such as OpenCPN.
It can also be used to configure serial devices via a COM port (for example, many AIS transponders).
There are many compatible programs for monitoring and displaying NMEA 0183 data, including NavMonPC, VisualGPS, and OpenCPN.
For configuring most AIS transponders (e.g., EM-Trak, Raymarine, ONWA), the proAIS2 configuration software is available from EM-Trak’s support site.
